About CBR Field Type Apparatus
Cbr Field Type
The use of the in-situ CBR apparatus in large road construction projects has increased considerably in the recent years. This apparatus, mounted on a rolled steel joist cantilevered from the back of the truck or fitted to the underside of a mobile frame, can be used to determine the bearing ratio (generally known as the California Bearing ratio) of soils quickly and efficiently for the evaluation of strengths of sub-grade & bases for roads & runway pavements. This method of testing in-situ, using piston penetration, is useful for determining the load carrying capacity in the field, when the in-place density and water contents are such that the degree of saturation is 80% or greater, when the material is coarse grained and cohesion less so that it is not affected by changes in the water content when the material has been in-place.

Efficient Field Testing for Accurate CBR Evaluation
This apparatus provides a dependable solution for determining the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of field soil, essential for evaluating the bearing capacity of subgrade soils. Its robust, corrosion-resistant steel construction ensures durability under challenging field conditions, while the supplied transport case enhances portability for on-site work. Operation is fully manual, eliminating the need for electricity, making it ideal for remote locations.
User-Friendly Design and Complete Accessory Set
With an automatic operation method and an intuitive hand jack system, the CBR Field Type Apparatus is both simple to use and quick to set up (10-15 minutes). All necessary accessories are included: mould, collar, spacer disc, weights, and a dial gauge stand, allowing reliable field tests with minimal preparation time.
Reliable, Precise Measurements Every Time
Thanks to its mechanical load measurement (proving ring or load cell) and high-resolution analog dial gauge, this apparatus delivers results with accuracy within 1% and resolution of 0.01 mm. The setup can accommodate specimens up to 150 mm in diameter and 175 mm in height, ensuring conformity with standard field test requirements.
FAQ's of CBR Field Type Apparatus:
Q: How do I set up and operate the CBR Field Type Apparatus in the field?
A: The CBR Field Type Apparatus is designed for quick field setup, typically requiring 10-15 minutes. Assemble the mould, place the soil specimen, attach the collar, spacer disc, and weights, then install the plunger and dial gauge. Operate the hand jack manually using the removable lever to press the plunger into the specimen, monitoring load and penetration through the analog dial gauge.Q: What is the primary benefit of using this apparatus for soil testing on-site?
A: This apparatus allows direct evaluation of subgrade soil strength on-site without needing an external power source. Its rugged, corrosion-resistant build ensures reliable performance in tough field conditions while delivering accurate CBR measurements for pavement and foundation projects.Q: When should I use the CBR Field Type Apparatus instead of a laboratory setup?
A: The CBR Field Type Apparatus is ideal for immediate, on-site assessment when laboratory testing is impractical. Use it for field projects where quick decisions on soil bearing capacity are crucial, such as road or pavement construction sites.Q: Where can this apparatus be utilized for testing?
A: This portable equipment is intended for use directly at construction or field sites where determining subgrade performance is essential. It operates effectively in ambient field conditions, withstanding humidity and temperatures between 5C and 50C.Q: What is the testing process with this CBR apparatus?
A: After assembling the apparatus and placing the prepared soil specimen in the mould, you manually apply load using the hand jack. The plunger penetrates the specimen at a controlled rate of 1.25 mm/min (adjustable). The force is recorded via the analog dial gauge or load ring, and CBR values are calculated based on penetration resistance.Q: How many soil samples can I test at one time using this apparatus?
A: You can test one specimen at a time, with each specimen typically measuring 150 mm diameter by 175 mm height, as per field CBR standards.
